What is the refund/cancellation policy?
The MTTA operates a low-cost hut-to-hut trail system. The goal of the system is to allow as many hut users as possible a chance to experience the huts and trail system. Trail and hut users should understand they are coming to a wilderness area where they need be ready for any and all scenarios. If a user is visiting in the winter time, be prepared there will be snow and ice on the roads and travel may be difficult. Trail and hut users are responsible for their own safety and knowing their own capabilities (driving, surviving winter weather, navigating snowy trails, etc.) and need to be self-sufficient in all seasons. We do provide resources at the huts, but things can happen in the wilderness that are out of our control. Trail and hut users should be prepared for ALL possible scenarios.
Refunds for overnight stays are provided if:
- The Department of Natural Resources closes the road from Hwy 706 to the huts for any reason.
- The MTTA must close a hut(s) to users for any reason.
- If you cancel your reservation 30 days or more before your stay date, a refund will be issued.
Refunds are not provided under any other circumstances other than those listed above.
Can I get a refund if the MTTA can find someone else to take my reservation?
MTTA no longer offers this option. This is a very manual process and puts a huge burden on our volunteer reservation coordinator.
Can I change the date of my reservation or change to a different hut?
In some situations, we may be able to move your reservation to another date and/or hut. Please contact reservations@skimtta.org to see if this option is available and for assistance in changing your reservation.
Alternatively, you can cancel your reservation (following the cancellation policy above) and rebook using the on-line booking system.
What is the occupancy agreement between the DNR and MTTA?
The agreement between MTTA and DNR, the landowners, is to maximize the number of overnight guests in the huts. Reserving more spots than you have folks in your group is a violation of this agreement. If your reservation is for more spots than people in your party, MTTA will open the unfilled spots and not refund your payment for these “empty spots.” They were made in violation of the Agreement.
